SIM and eSIM
Getting a Thai number or a data plan working the moment you land.
Information changes. Check it again before you travel.
eSIM — working before you land
Bought online and activated in advance, so maps and Grab work the moment you switch your phone on. Needs an eSIM-capable handset — most phones sold since about 2019.
| eSIM | What to know |
|---|---|
| Airalo | The widest country coverage, so useful if Thailand is one stop of several. |
| Holafly | Unlimited-data plans. No local number, so it will not receive Thai SMS. |
| Saily | Usually the cheapest of the three for a short trip. |

Thai networks — bought at the airport
A physical tourist SIM from a counter in arrivals. Cheaper than an eSIM for a longer stay, gives you a Thai number, and works in any unlocked phone.
